Why Calling 911 Matters for Our Community
Many neighbors think that if there’s an emergency, calling a firefighter directly or having someone “just come over and help” is enough. But here’s something most people don’t realize: those calls don’t count toward our ISO score—the rating that determines how well our fire department is protecting the community and directly affects your homeowners’ insurance rates.
Right now, Jasper Highlands VFD is rated a Class 4. We’re proud of that, but we just missed becoming a Class 3, which would bring real savings and recognition for our community. One of the main reasons is not enough 911 calls are being recorded. The only way the system knows how often we respond and how quickly we arrive is through official 911 dispatch records.
Every time you call 911—even for something you think is “small”—you’re not only getting the fastest and safest response, you’re also helping your fire department move closer to a better ISO rating. That better rating means lower insurance premiums and stronger community protection for everyone.
So please remember:
- Always call 911 first.
- Don’t rely on calling a firefighter directly.
- AYour call helps your neighbors, your fire department, and even your wallet.
Together, we can make Jasper Highlands safer—and stronger—just by dialing 911 when it matters.
